We built the directory we wished existed.
When our families needed assisted living, we found a market full of referral services that collected commissions from facilities. Families got curated lists, not complete pictures. We decided to fix that.
The problem with referral services
When a family searches for assisted living online, most of the first results are paid referral directories. These services earn a placement fee — sometimes equivalent to one month's rent or more — from every facility a family selects after being referred. This creates a fundamental conflict of interest: the service is incentivized to recommend facilities that pay the highest commissions, not necessarily the best fit for your family.
Families often don't know this is happening. The recommendation feels like independent guidance. It isn't.
California licenses every assisted living facility and makes those records public. We built Reserve to make that data accessible, searchable, and honest — so families can make informed decisions without navigating a system designed to extract value from a vulnerable moment.
What Reserve is
Reserve is a free, transparent directory of every licensed assisted living facility in California. We list over 7,500 facilities — residential care homes, large assisted living communities, and everything in between — with accurate capacity information, contact details, and licensing data.
Facilities can claim their listing and keep their information current. Families can search by ZIP code, city, or county and contact facilities directly. There's no middleman taking a cut. The relationship is yours.
We're in beta. The directory is growing. We're adding more data, better filters, and features to help families compare options more meaningfully. But we're not waiting until it's perfect to make it useful.
Our principles
Transparency over commission
We show every licensed facility in California — not just the ones that pay to be featured. No facility has ever paid Reserve to influence how it appears in our directory.
Information, not sales pressure
Most senior-care referral sites earn money when you choose a facility they recommend. We don't. That means we have no incentive to steer you toward any particular home.
Data from the source
Our directory is built from California's official public state licensing records, supplemented by publicly available inspection and compliance data. You're seeing the same data regulators see.
Respect for the decision
Finding assisted living for a parent or loved one is one of the most emotionally difficult decisions a family faces. We treat it that way — with patience, honesty, and zero pressure.
